Frequently Asked Questions

How are total work hours calculated?

For each entry: Work hours = (End time − Start time) − Break time. If end time is before start time, 24 hours are added (overnight shift). All entries are then summed. Example: Start 9:00, End 17:30, Break 45 min → 8h 30m − 45m = 7h 45m worked that day.

How does the calculator handle overnight shifts?

The calculator automatically detects overnight shifts when the end time is earlier than the start time. It adds 24 hours to the end time to compute the correct duration. Example: Start 22:00, End 06:00 → 06:00 + 24h = 30:00 − 22:00 = 8 hours worked. This works for any shift crossing midnight.

How is pay calculated?

Total pay = Total hours worked (as decimal) × Hourly rate. Hours are converted to decimal: 7h 45m = 7.75 hours. Example: 7h 45m at $18/hour = 7.75 × $18 = $139.50. For salaried workers, hourly rate = Annual salary / (52 × contracted hours per week). The calculator does not deduct taxes — it calculates gross pay.

How do I track overtime hours?

In most countries, overtime applies to hours worked beyond 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week. The calculator shows total hours, so you can manually identify which hours are overtime. Overtime pay is typically 1.5× the regular rate (time and a half) or 2× (double time) depending on your employment agreement and local law.

Can I use this for multiple days and a weekly timesheet?

Yes. Add one entry per work day using the + button. The calculator sums all entries to show total weekly hours and total pay. For a standard 5-day work week, add Monday through Friday with their respective start times, end times, and breaks. The average hours per day is also displayed.
